GOGURYEO is an exclusive and authentic Korean Restaurant in Madhapur, Hyderabad.

A VIDEO:

Goguryeo Restaurant introduces Korean cuisine to Hyderabad! It is an exclusive and authentic Korean Food Restaurant. Goguryeo Restaurant also referred as Go Gu Ryeo Restaurant is the embodiment of the dreams and passion of Miyoung Choi, Head Chef. Miyoung Choi has one passion, her sheer dedication to creating fantastic food. Whether it’s the principles of ingredients or that of the specific cuisine, it all comes back to the first principle of becoming a true master at her craft; to treat every dish with reverence. We had the experience of tasting and enjoying her marvellous creations and chatting with her for some time. You can see her with us in the photographs below.

The restaurant is named after Goguryeo/Goryeo an ancient and very large Kingdom in Korea (37 BC–668 AD), extending beyond Korea into parts of China and Mongolia.

After the complete lockdown of our Nation on March 24, 2020, for about three weeks to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, I and my wife, with lots of free time began watching South Korean Dramas on Netflix. We got so addicted to these dramas that we are today watching our 71st K-Drama. In all these dramas, a variety of Korean food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and at parties is on display all the time. Korean food has a deep-rooted culinary history which gives insight into the Korean lifestyle. We looked into all these details and got familiar with the names of many Korean foods. This tempted and prompted us to prepare now and then Cabbage and Radish Kimchi, a staple food of Korea and to store it, to readily have it as a side dish and to prepare Kimchi Fried Rice. We have also ordered online and enjoyed Instant Ramyun/Ramen Noodles, Vegetarian and Chicken flavoured, though not the 2X spicy noodles, by adding the entire Chilli paste!

After coming to know of Goguryeo Restaurant in Hyderabad, we have been planning to visit the place and it was possible last night, 3rd March 2022.  Almost all the names in the Menu were familiar to us, thanks to K-dramas.

We were first served a couple of side dishes, Radish Kimchi, Braised Baby Potatoes in Korean Soy sauce, Steamed and stir-fried Potato Strips and three types of sauces, Gochujang – Korean chilli paste, Sweet Chilli paste and Soy sauce with spices. We then choose to have the following two dishes:

‘CHEESE DAK GALBI’ – termed as a special BBQ dish prepared right in front of us at our table. It is made by stir-frying marinated chicken, pre-seasoned cabbage, carrot, potato, zucchini, mushroom, onion and then cheese. It was quite exciting to see the grill station at our table being made ready for us. The grill table comes with a big burner that gets fuelled by a Mini Gas Can. And the marinated chicken and vegetables are stir-fried here in a round cast iron bowl and within minutes the food gets cooked. This preparation is accompanied by large steamed Chinese cabbage leaves in plenty, on a separate plate. As advised by the chef, we ate this dish by picking up a cabbage leaf, spreading a little of a special chilli paste on it and then by placing the stir-fried chicken and vegetables on it, then by rolling it we put the entire cabbage wrap in the mouth. It is quite a lovely and tasty experience. You can see all this in the attached photos and video.

‘STONEPOT BIBIMBAP’ – Warm sticky rice topped with sautéed and seasoned vegetables, that is carrot, mushrooms, spring onion, cabbage, lettuce, fried eggs and Gochujang paste. This is yet another popular, colourful and delicious Korean dish.

The portions were quite large for the two of us, so we got the remaining packed and took them home.

Apart from this, we ordered the following for consumption at home, over a few weeks:

KIMCHI - 500 gms.

GOCHUJANG (Korean Chilli paste) - 300 gms.

When it comes to the ambience of the Restaurant it is quite impressive, with good lighting, and neat and comfortable seating. With posters of Kpop Idols, K-Drama Stars and Korean Movie stars and with crockery and cutlery of Korean origin, the feeling is of being in Korea.

And the serving staff is quite polite and helpful in explaining about these foreign foods and the selection of them.

If you are a connoisseur of exotic foods and especially Korean cuisine, this is certainly a Restaurant to visit.

The address of the restaurant is Goguryeo Restaurant, Vittal Rao Nagar, Madhapur, Hyderabad, and it is open from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm.
