Today
we tried another popular S.Korean food – Tteokbokki (టక్బొక్కీ).
The reason for trying it is because Tteokbokki is a very popular food in
S.Korea. It is prepared in different varieties, by using Garaetteok (గరటోకే),
and is popular as street food, at restaurants and homes as per the many K-Dramas
we have seen and as per the internet.
Three
days back we prepared a large quantity of Garaetteok, that is long, white,
cylinder-shaped rice cakes (using rice flour), and stored them in the fridge.
Today we prepared Tteokbokki-Curry using some of the rice cakes. Photographs of
Garaetteok and Tteokbokki-Curry are attached to give an idea of this
preparation. All ingredients are common household items. But instead of normal
chilli powder and chilli flakes we used Gochujang (Korean Chilli paste) which
we bought at a Korean Restaurant – Goguryeo, in Hyderabad.
It is nice, we will have it again and a few other forms of Tteokbokki. And the rice cakes - Garaetteok can be had as a snack by simply dipping it in honey or any spicy sauce!
