It is a shame HMT Watches is closing down.

The Wrist Watches you see in the above pictures are: 1) My brother, Dr. Lakshminarsu’s 43 year old HMT Automatic Winding, 21 Jewels, Day and Date, Radium Dial Wrist Watch and 2) My 29 year old HMT Janata, 17 Jewel, Manual Winding Wrist Watch. On hearing about closing down of HMT Watch Manufacturing units (Public Sector Units) in Bangalore and elsewhere in India, I picked up these old Wrist Watches of ours and found them in excellent working condition!
It is a shock and shame that the manufacturer of such good quality and large variety of Wrist Watches, with a sales figure of over 150 million units! is closing down due to heavy losses. Started in 1961, and establishing manufacturing units all over the country, HMT Watches was a household name. They were most sought after Watches and especially as gifts and rewards for every occasion and to persons of every age.
HMT Watches once known as “Time keepers to the nation” and “Desh ki dhadkan” is dying solely, because of mismanagement, of course like many other Public Sector Units in our country. As new entrants came into the market, with new strategies, this giant of a Company failed to beat the competition, despite much help from the Government.
The era of HMT Watches has come to an end, but the memories of these first “Made in India” watches will remain with at least two generations of Indians.

And many more such attractive models…

Save our Nation from sinking.

Have you heard of this rich/richest engineer in India?
Caught with Two Kilograms of Diamonds!
Stacked in his house,
And Rupees Ten Crores!
Stacked in a 90 Lakh Audi,
And with multiple lockers and investments!
All procured through devious means.
Greed for property and prosperity,
Glitter and glory,
Lands this corrupt Engineer,
And each of his family member,
In miserable agony.
Will this teach lessons,
To corrupt Indians?
May be to a minority,
But not to the majority.
So what do we do about this?
Simply stop bribing!
And expose the corrupt,
And save our Nation from sinking.

Today is World Television Day.

In recognition of the increasing impact television has on decision-making by bringing world attention to conflicts and threats to peace and security and its potential role in sharpening the focus on other major issues, including economic and social issues, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21st November as World Television Day in 1996.
World Television Day is not so much a celebration of the tool, but rather the philosophy which it represents. Television represents a symbol for communication and globalization in the contemporary world.
Television helps bring the world to people’s lives and living rooms. It is the most powerful medium reaching millions of people around the world on a multitude of different screens. It is wonderful entertainment, educational, informative and communicative and an inspirational tool. For example during national and international sporting events it is so wonderful to watch how it brings people together and connects them all, for hours and days!
But then the power of Television is like every other power. It has its good and its bad sides. It can help spreading a wonderful message, an idea, art, recipes, history, travel, valuable and important news, sports, movies and entertainment and similarly lots of good.  But unfortunately Television is also used for propaganda, against ideas, against people, against good leaders, great artists, and in support of evil movements, barbarians and cruel nations. And unfortunately in India, just to earn some money and fame, our TV industry is adopting all possible tactics to attract viewers by pervert means. Almost all the TV serials telecast in all States in all languages of our country round the clock are full of negative roles, never ending conspiracies, villainy, violence and all that is bad, with very little good. These are all family dramas projecting women in unbelievable devilish roles. Such programs are a disgrace. They must be definitely having a very bad affect on children and some women, wasting their time and corrupting their minds. Similarly most 24X7 News channels are biased, not truthful, very noisy and their day long news, interviews, and debate telecasts sensationalizing and repeating cheap, dirty, violent, crime related and controversial news are useless and do more harm than good.
With such a large TV audience in our country, and in view of the irresponsible Television channels, especially those telecasting TV serials with never ending wicked family conspiracies and controversial and distorted news, I strongly feel that such TV channels should be regulated, censored or banned.

My Birthday – 2014.

Today is my birthday. At the outset I wish to once again thank all friends, family and relatives who have conveyed birthday wishes to me over phone, mobile and through email, SMS, WhatsApp and facebook.
This year, my birthday has been a low key occasion as most of the family is away. Sudhiksha,  Srikanth, Lavanya and Ranjini are all away. And Srinath, Uday Bhaskar, Hina and Vihaan are all abroad and away for most family celebrations.
My day started with a visit to the nearby Temple. And in the afternoon we had a lakeside lunch and in the evening I cut a homemade pineapple cake which we had with snacks, and in the night a lonesome routine dinner.
I wish the whole family; at least most of the family members will be together for all ensuing functions.
God Bless Us, Every One, Please!

Happy Children's Day!

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” – Albert Einstein

“The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” – Denis Waitley
Children’s Day, also referred to as ‘Bal Diwas’ is celebrated every year on 14th November coinciding with the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of India.
Children’s Day is being observed on a grand scale in all schools all over India since 1964, after the demise of Nehru on 27th May 1964. This is one fact; known to every Indian, adult and child!
Nehru, lovingly addressed by children as ‘Chacha Nehru’ was very fond of children and roses. And wherever he went, children flocked around him with affection and admiration; for his contribution to our freedom struggle and development of India.
During his lifetime, Nehru often cited that children were like rose buds in a garden and must be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the foundation and future of our society and our country.
Today also happens to be my father, Sri N. Bhaskarachary’s birthday. And in the above two photographs are his seven grandchildren – Sudheer, Uma Rani, Uday Bhasker, Sridhar, Usha Rani, Srikanth and Srinath, engrossed in books and adventure!
Happy Children’s Day to One and All!

Lovely Long Whirl! And Lunch In A Garden So Tranquil!

Last night’s showers,
Gifted to Twin Cities,
A very pleasant day,
With an ideal weather,
For a great family outing!
But with the children away,
And it being a working day,
We could not muster,
Even a single partner,
So we went by ourselves,
Shopping along the roadways!
On our lovely long whirl!
Well beyond Medchal,
And Lunch in a garden so tranquil!

This Year's Karthika Pournami Photographs and Videos (2014).

Today is the holy day of Karthika Pournami. Karthika Masam is the name of the current Lunar month and today is Pournami that is Full Moon Day and hence the day is called Karthika Pournami. Today is also called as Karthika Punnami and Karthika Poornima / Purnima. It is a holy celebration to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. It is the day on which Lord Shiva killed Tripurasura a demon king and protected the world. With boons from Lord Ganesha, Tripurasura became indestructible, grew into an evil force and defeated all the kings of Earth and the Gods in Heaven. According to Lord Ganesha’s boon, Tripurasura could be killed only by Lord Shiva. After witnessing the evil deeds and destruction unleashed by Triupurasura, Lord Ganesha approached Tripurasura in the guise of a Brahmin with a plan to eliminate him.  The Brahmin displayed 64 arts to the demon king, and pleased with the Brahmin; Tripurasura offered to grant him any wish he made. The Brahmin asked for the Idol of Chinthamani which is with Lord Shiva. As Lord Shiva refused to part with the Idol, a war took place between Lord Shiva and Tripurasura. The Chariot that Lord Shiva rode in this war is described as Prithvi (Earth) with the Sun and Moon as its wheels and the bow as Meru (the huge mountain) and Lord Vishnu as the arrow. This single arrow from Lord Shiva destroyed all the materialistic boons that Lord Ganesha had offered to Tripurasura in the form of palaces and vimanams (planes). The speed and force of the arrow caused heavy lightening which made Tripurasura faint and ultimately brought about his end.
People in very large numbers bathe in the holy rivers of the country today. They visit Temples and offer prayers. ‘Abhishekam’ is performed to Lord Shiva. As such, Karthika Masam that is the entire month of Karthikam is considered very auspicious. During this entire month and specially today oil lamps are lit at Temples, at holy rivers and houses with hundreds of wicks, sometimes thousands of wicks (‘Karthika Deepa-aradhana’) and in modern days 365 wicks to represent the days of the year. Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi along with all the Gods are said to visit and reside under Amla that is Usiri or Gooseberry trees by the side of Tulisi plants that is Basil plants, in this month. Hence a lot of prominence is given to these plants, prayers are offered to the plants on this day and in this month, and picnics are organized outdoors, preferably under Amla trees. These rituals are called Vana Mahotsavam or Vanabhojanalu. All these actions are considered very beneficial, they are said to liberate us from all sins and bless us with good health, wealth, prosperity, success, longevity and fulfillment of all wishes.
The above photographs are of Karthika Pournami festivities at Sri Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple, at Keesara Gutta (Keesara hillock), Keesara Village, 30 Kms. from our house in Secunderabad.
