In love with Sunflower and Sunflower quotes and sayings!

A Facebook post by my wife yesterday on Sunflowers has prompted me to quickly compile this blog post with our photographs at some delightful and charming Sunflower farms and with a selection of Sunflower quotes and sayings. I hope you will like them. The photograph just below this write-up is of her Facebook status yesterday:

I love Sunflowers because they are so very cheering and happy flowers to look at any time of the year. – N. Lalitha Raghu.

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow. It’s what Sunflowers do. – Helen Keller.

BE THE SUNFLOWER!

Be bright and cheery,

Be big and bold,

Be strong and resilient,

Know your roots,

And be hard to miss in a room.

Bloom where you are planted!

Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction. – Antoine de Saint Exupery.

Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men and animals. Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower. – Henry Ward Beecher.

This makes it ironic my favourite flower isn’t even indigenous to the British Isles, let alone Yorkshire. I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that more trumpets life than the Sunflower. For me, that’s because of the reason behind its name. Not because it looks like the Sun but because it follows the Sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the Sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life. – Calendar Girls, 2003 Movie.
