Welcome Party, Birthday Party and Happy First Ever Meeting of Cousins!

Two days back that is 13th of December was my grandson’s Second Birthday. The Party on that day was not only to celebrate his Birthday but also the home coming of his two cousins from abroad. The cousins arrived in time for the Birthday Party and of course to their Welcome Party!

Of the four cousins, the eldest Ch. Sudhiksha, and the third cousin that is my grandson Ch. Atharv are growing up together in our joint family as sister and brother. The second cousin Ch. Vihaan who is four years old and the youngest of these cousins Ch. NIkith who is just four months old are residing in America, they are brothers.  Vihaan was with us for few days on two occasions earlier but that was before the birth of Atharv. So Sudhiksha has met Vihaan earlier but Nikith for the first time. And cousins Vihaan and Atharv have met now, for the first time in two years! This appears strange and surprising because their parents have all grownup together since their birth in the same household as brothers.

The new arrival into the family Nikith is new to all of us here; we have seen him for the first time on 13th December. All of us are extremely happy with this family reunion and seeing all the four cousins together for the first time and getting along very well.

May all the cousins remain very close like friends, brothers and sister as their parents are, though in their case distance may keep them away for short durations.

Today, 10th December is Human Rights Day.

December 10th is Human Rights Day, a United Nations (UN) campaign that calls for people to know and push for their rights no matter where they are in the world.

Human rights are our basic rights or freedoms. They include our right to live, our right to health, education, freedom of speech and thoughts, and equal rights. Some groups organize protests on Human Rights Day to alert people of circumstances in parts of the world where human rights are not recognized or respected, or where these rights are not considered to be important.

Cultural events and photo exhibitions are also held to inform people, especially today's youth, of their rights and why it's important to hold on to them.

Human Rights Day is a global observance and not a public holiday, so it's business as usual.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted between January 1947 and December 1948. It aimed to form a basis for human rights all over the world and represented a significant change of direction from events during World War II and the continuing colonialism that was rife in the world at the time. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is considered as the most translated document in modern history. It is available in more than 360 languages and new translations are still being added.

The UN General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France, on 10th December, 1948. All states and interested organizations were invited to mark 10th December as Human Rights Day at a UN meeting on 4th December, 1950. It was first observed on 10th December that year and has been observed each year on the same date. Each year Human Rights Day has a theme. Some of these themes have focused on people knowing their human rights or the importance of human rights education.

This year’s Human Rights Day is devoted to the launch of a year-long campaign for the 50th anniversary of the two International Covenants on Human Rights: the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 16th December 1966.

The two Covenants, together with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, form the International Bill of Human Rights, setting out the civil, political, cultural, economic, and social rights that are the birth right of all human beings.

“Our Rights. Our Freedoms. Always.” aims to promote and raise awareness of the two Covenants on their 50th anniversary. The year-long campaign revolves around the theme of rights and freedoms — freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear — which underpin the International Bill of Human Rights; are as relevant today as they were when the Covenants were adopted 50 years ago.

An Appeal to Voters of Gujarat, in National Interest.

Dear people of Gujarat,

I am sure you would VOTE on the basis of merit and not on the basis of caste, creed and false promises, being promoted by some politicians and one so called secular political party. This political party's aim is to somehow come to power in every State and Center by dividing people on the basis of caste and creed and by joining hands with political parties having different ideologies and with anyone and anywhere. This party and its Mahagathbandhan is losing everywhere since 2014. This is because their track record when in power for decades has been very bad with poor development and lots of corruption everywhere and in everything.

Please beware of such unworthy candidates contesting the elections, led by unworthy leaders from Delhi. Not only your State interests but also National interests depend on whom you elect. Please vote judiciously.

No Right Turn at T-Junctions of Hyderabad!

Signals at Traffic Junctions are a universal norm to discipline and regulate traffic and help pedestrians. In Hyderabad too over the years Signals have come up at all Junctions. Thanks to the Signals, traffic jams of the worst kind on these Crossroads have come to an end, and pedestrians are helped in crossing busy roads.

But of late signals at T-Junctions are being shut off in Hyderabad.   Barricades are being put up at T-Junctions to prevent Right Turns for traffic from either direction. It is claimed that this is being done to facilitate uninterrupted, halt-free movement for vehicles moving in straight directions. 

Traffic which has to take a Right Turn will have to move ahead at T-Junctions until they find a U-Turn; take a U-Turn by forcing themselves into the traffic ahead of them. In the process, they are stalling the free movement of straight-moving traffic in front of them and behind them. At such U-Turns, taking a U-Turn requires lots of talent requiring a very aggressive intrusion into the main traffic. Due to the closure of the NTR T-Junction of SP Road and Minister Road, the chaos at U-Turns adds to the unruly traffic of Hyderabad. And pedestrians at this T- Junction have no provision to cross the road anywhere nearby. The police manning this T-Junction and many others earlier; I am sure are being used elsewhere on some very important works.

Please do not find fault with this unusual decision of regulating traffic. Forget the inconvenience due to the closure of T-Junctions and the ‘No Right Turn’ boards and the extra distance you have to travel up to the U-Turns and the anarchy at these U-Turns… try to adjust and appreciate such wise decisions which are beyond the understanding of common men like me.

December Fourth Is A Very Special Day!

Birthdays and anniversaries are wonderful opportunities to communicate love and warmth to the persons we care about. And when such occasions come up within the family they are all the more special and intense. It is a great opportunity for expressing our love and for celebration in whichever way possible, with the family and all dear ones.

In this regard, today 4th December is a very special day for us because it is the birthday of the most important person in our family. This article is about today’s significance and celebration. And without my mentioning, the attached photographs would reveal to you whose birthday it is…
