On
1st January 2020, as in the past, the grand annual 46 days long “Numaish”
(meaning Exhibition in Urdu) commenced in Hyderabad. Though popularly known as
“Numaish” or simply Exhibition, it is officially the All India Industrial
Exhibition, the 80th one! The on-going 80th Exhibition is as grand and attractive
and popular as ever! With almost 2500 stalls showcasing all possible
merchandise and estimated 3 million visitors between 1st January and 15th February
2020, its attraction & popularity remain intact. Visiting the Numaish is a
tradition to the people of Hyderabad and this has been going on for the past
few generations. In all these years I have never missed the Numaish. I always
make it a point to visit the Exhibition at least twice every year. Photographs
at the top of this article are from our two visits to the Exhibition this year,
and those below this article are from the previous year.
My
congratulations and appreciation to the Exhibition Society (Osmania Graduates
Association) for their service and entertainment to society through Numaish and
for promoting and running about 20 Educational Institutions in Telangana State.
The
first exhibition was organized in 1938 by the Osmania Graduates Association.
After four consecutive runs of this annual event, the Exhibition Society was
formed so that the Exhibition could be organized as a permanent annual feature.
The primary objective of the Exhibition Society has been the promotion of
Industrial and economic growth, initially in Hyderabad State and subsequently
in the State of Andhra Pradesh and now in Telangana State. This voluntary
organization, ‘The Exhibition Society’ formed by the alumni of Osmania
University has been responsible for establishing over 20 educational
institutions for the underprivileged and needy. The finance required for
establishing and supporting these institutes are generated by conducting this Exhibition
every year.
The
Exhibition attracts and gives an opportunity to businessmen, technocrats,
manufacturers, entrepreneurs, importers, exporters, distributors, traders,
wholesalers, retailers, advertisers and service providers from various sectors
to promote their prospects. And to the thousands of visitors to the Exhibition
every day, from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the stalls offer
every type of merchandise like apparel, jewellery, footwear, home appliances,
dry fruits, cutlery and crockery, leather goods, games and toys, sweets and savouries,
carpets, perfumes, restaurants, chaat stalls, toiletry, upholstery, furniture,
plots and flats, bikes and cars, silver/brass/bronze/terracotta/black metal
sculpture, cosmetics, kitchen utensils, stationery, pillow, mattresses, fitness
equipment and whatnot. There is something for everyone. There is a huge
amusement area with every type of joy ride and amusement stalls. Among various
joy rides, the most popular is the historic toy train ride amidst the various
stalls of the Exhibition. Then there are a large number of Government and
Industrial stalls giving information on their functioning and achievements.
If
you are in Hyderabad between 1st January and 15th February of any year, please
do visit the exhibition and I assure you that it will be a memorable and
thrilling experience.
