away from home,
On official work and all alone,
For very long durations,
Before the advent of Cell phones,

And once in a while,

Long-distance phone calls,
Were possible once in a few days.
Working

And counting days to return home,
Were a daily routine.
The job required

And undivided attention,
But during after job relaxation,
At my accommodation,
Thoughts of family and home,
Took over,
Causing heartache,
Call it homesickness.

Which thankfully were not frequent,
And to overcome the loneliness,
And longing for home,
At least by a small extent,
I always carried family photographs,
And placed them by my bedside,
