A
new Super Market – Ratnadeep, has opened on our street on 5th July ’17 that is
two days back. To evaluate this Branch of Hyderabad’s popular Super Market
chain and make some purchases I was there with my wife on 5th evening, the day
of its opening. Due to heavy rush; we bought just a few items, mostly
vegetables, on which there is no Goods and Services Tax (GST). We ended up
paying GST for just two items, at 18%. To understand GST rates on household items,
I decided to save Bills of purchases during next few weeks and study them.
Today,
7th July we were at Ratnadeep once again and bought items as listed in above
Bill. On scrutiny I saw that these purchases attracted all categories of GST,
at 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% (!)…5% on Rs. 140.00, 12% on Rs. 376.64, 18% on Rs.
339.00 and 28% on Rs. 250.00. Now it has become a sort of quiz for me to find
out from the Bill what item has attracted what percentage of GST.
Since
we have to anyway pay GST, we may simply shop for our requirements and stop
looking into GST, CGST and SGST and leave those details and responsibility to
the seller.
However
for curiosity and knowledge about GST one may have to do some study, and to
help you in this regard here is a link to an exhaustive list, for GST Rates for
over 1,300 Goods and Services:
