“Hyderabad Marriott Hotel” is presenting “Seafood Market - A
Seafood Festival” at the “Okra Culinary Theater” from 20th October to 3rd
November 2010. I went there with my brother Dr. Lakshminarsu, my son Srikanth
and his friend Rakesh, on Saturday, 30th October. We enjoyed a leisurely buffet
dinner for well over two hours, consisting mostly of seafood delicacies. The
concept of the festival is to choose the fishes from the display at the Fish
Market and get them cooked whichever way you want, with any combination of
herbs and spices or simply order them from the list of fish at your table. The
varieties of seafood available for us were, King Fish (Sea Murrel), Sea Bass,
Sole, Pomfret, Sardines, Red Snapper, River Salmon, River Murrel, Squids,
Prawns and Shrimps. We tried all of these varieties, either Grilled, Pan fried,
Beer battered, Steamed, Wine poached or Tandoori and with a variety of Rubs
like Sea Salt and Lemon, Cajun, Grain Mustard, House Wine & Parsley, Lemon
& Thyme, Basil & Butter and Garlic, Teriyaki, Peri-Peri, Southern
Spices and Tandoori Masala. We also had “Sashimi” – raw seafood, and a seafood
Soup.
Apart from the seafood variety, we also had before us, a
buffet spread of over hundred items consisting of contemporary; Western,
Oriental and Indian cuisine - Salads, hors d’oeuvres and Main course. The
Dessert spread was also huge and extraordinary. We could create our own
designer Ice Cream – Teppanyaki style. On the whole it was a very satisfactory
dinner. And as the Hotel’s ad said, we got stuffed to our Gills!
