Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple, that is Hanumanji Temple at Kondagattu in
Mallial Mandal of Karimnagar District in Telangana State has become a very
popular place of pilgrimage as countless devotees’ state that their prayers are
being fulfilled. Most importantly it is believed that
the issueless are blessed with Children by praying here.
Kondagattu is 170 Km from Hyderabad. The Temple is on a hillock with a
Ghat road almost up to the Temple. From the parking lot, we have to walk some
distance and then climb a few steps to reach the Temple.
The Temple is crowded on most days and as we visited the Temple on a
Tuesday which is considered very auspicious, the congregation was rather large.
However, we had a quick and satisfactory darshan by procuring
Special Darshan Tickets. A few photographs from our visit are attached.
The Temple history states that about 300 years ago a cowherd by the name Singam Sanjeevudu came to this hillock looking for a buffalo that had strayed from his herd. As he was tired he fell asleep on this hillock and it is said that Sri Anjaneya Swamy appeared in his dream and informed him of the location of his buffalo. The cowherd suddenly got up and as he was looking for his buffalo he found a very bright idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy. Over the next few days, he built a small Temple for the idol and this attracted the local people and regular daily worship and ceremonies commenced. The popularity of the Temple grew as the prayers of the devotees were being answered. And 160 years ago a person by the name Krishna Rao Deshmukh renovated the Temple and endowed some land for its maintenance. The Temple and the facilities there improved and expanded as the State Endowments Department took over the administration of the temple in 1968.
