Today is World Photography Day.

Today, on 19th August 2014 the world is celebrating 175 Years of Photography!
Can you imagine a world without photography? Today, we can share memories across the globe in seconds. Photography is an invention that has revolutionized the way we see the world. We can visit places without leaving our home. We can share adventures, events and memories with friends in another city or country and watch grandchildren like our Vihaan grow up thousands of kilometers away. And just imagine there was once a time when photography didn’t exist.
World Photography Day is all about celebrating the joy photography brings into our lives. It’s about acknowledging the technology we take for granted every day.
On this occasion I wish all photographers and photography enthusiasts like me all the best in their profession and lives, and to freeze more and more best moments of life and nature with their beloved Cameras. And just to remind my blog readers and visitors, there are over 6000 photographs! related to me in this blog of mine: Raghu’s column! - http://srisrilara.blogspot.in/
The above photograph titled “Hearty laughter!” is my contribution to this year’s “Share Your World Photo Book”, with a storyline “At a fancy dress competition at our house, a funny costume has generated this wholehearted laughter in my wife and a grandnephew”.

Happy 68th Independence Day,..the 1st for Telangana State!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY.
What a Happy Day! …especially as today is the First Independence Day of our Country’s newest State – TELANGANA! For which I have been aspiring since 1969 and many since 1956. God bless Telangana and our Country on this happy occasion.
Independence Day is a day of remembrance as well as dedication. Just as our Country achieved freedom through a very long struggle and sacrifice by generations of selfless patriots; young and old, men and women cutting across the barriers of caste, religion and region from all over the country, TELANGANA STATE too has become a reality after a similar struggle full of sacrifices. Today I wish to thank and pay my respects to all the great men, dead and alive who have made our Country - The Republic of India and Telangana State possible.
May our State and Country prosper in every aspect and the people live in peace and happiness forever. GOD BLESS.

A lovely poem on Hyderabad and Charminar by Mrs. Sarojini Naidu, and my comments:

Charminar has been the most important landmark and symbol of Hyderabad City since 1591! And for any Hyderabadi, Charminar or news about it or even its pictures or replicas in any form are quite exciting. The photograph just below this para, the poem below it and more photographs and video in the links towards the end of this article prove my statement!
And here’s that lovely poem on Hyderabad and Charminar by Mrs. Sarojini Naidu - Nightingale of India.
Nightfall In The City Of Hyderabad.
See how the speckled sky burns like a pigeon's throat,
Jewelled with embers of opal and peridote.
See the white river that flashes and scintillates,
Curved like a tusk from the mouth of the city-gates.
Hark, from the minaret, how the muezzin's call
Floats like a battle-flag over the city wall.
From trellised balconies, languid and luminous
Faces gleam, veiled in a splendour voluminous.
Leisurely elephants wind through the winding lanes,
Swinging their silver bells hung from their silver chains.
Round the high Char Minar sounds of gay cavalcades
Blend with the music of cymbals and serenades.
Over the city bridge Night comes majestical,
Borne like a queen to a sumptuous festival.
- Mrs. Sarojini Naidu.
