Tribute to Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, who served our Nation well and rekindled patriotism amongst us.

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad of 19th battalion of the Madras Regiment defended our country for 14 years serving at tough frontiers and difficult terrains. While serving at Siachen Glacier, world’s highest and inhospitable battlefield, he along with nine other soldiers was struck by an avalanche on 3rd February 2016. They were instantly buried under 35 feet of snow. After six days of rescue operations; when all hopes of finding any soldier alive were lost, Hanumanthappa was found alive but in critical condition. He defied death for six days buried under 35 feet of snow, at -45 degrees Celsius temperature. And thereafter from 8th February to 11th February under best of Medical attention he battled for life. His life united the whole country and led them to wish and pray for his recovery. But it did not happen and he breathed his last on 11th February. The whole country united in paying homage to him. A great life indeed in the service of our Nation, his life rekindled patriotism amongst us. He and his life will never be forgotten
May his soul rest in peace. And may his family be honoured and well supported by the Army and our Government.
